Internal Memo
TO: All Department Managers FROM: Patricia Diaz, HR Director
DATE: 15 September RE: Annual Performance Review Process — Updated Timeline
Please be advised that the annual performance review process has been moved forward this year. All managers are requested to complete their team members' performance evaluations using the updated online system by Friday, 4 October.
This year, the evaluation form includes a new section on professional development goals. Managers are asked to discuss and agree on at least two development objectives with each team member before completing the form. Training on how to use the updated system will be provided via a thirty-minute online tutorial, available on the HR portal from Monday, 18 September.
All completed evaluations will be reviewed by senior management during the week of 7 October, with individual feedback meetings to be scheduled between 14 and 25 October. Please direct any questions regarding the process to the HR department at hr@company.com.
Email
To: Patricia Diaz From: Tom Nakagawa, Operations Manager Date: 17 September
Subject: RE: Annual Performance Review Process
Hi Patricia,
Thank you for the memo regarding the updated review timeline. I have a couple of questions I hope you can help with.
First, two members of my team will be on annual leave from 25 September to 4 October. Would it be possible to have an extended deadline for completing their evaluations? I want to ensure I have adequate time to discuss the development objectives with them as required.
Second, I noticed the memo mentions that the online tutorial will be available from Monday the 18th. I tried to access the HR portal this morning and the tutorial does not appear to be live yet. Could you confirm when it will be available?
Many thanks,
Tom Nakagawa

Q1 (B) — Main purpose — the memo informs managers of a changed timeline and updated procedures.
Q2 (C) — Specific detail from memo — 'complete their team members' performance evaluations... by Friday, 4 October.'
Q3 (B) — Specific detail from memo — 'the evaluation form includes a new section on professional development goals.'
Q4 (B) — Specific detail from email — 'two members of my team will be on annual leave from 25 September to 4 October.'
Q5 (B) — Cross-reference — The memo says tutorial available from Monday 18th; Tom's email dated 17th says 'I tried to access the HR portal this morning and the tutorial does not appear to be live yet.' He is flagging an inconsistency.
